Northey Arms Boules Club
Drawn Pairs Knockout Competition
Sponsored by BathaquaGlass
The Drawn Pairs Knockout Competition will happen in the summer from the end of May to September each year – Playing for the “Drawn Pairs Bowl” and the “Drawn Pairs Plate” sponsored by BathAquaGlass.
All members will be encouraged to enter, to make it as inclusive as possible.
The draw will be seeded – those that are more experienced (ME) and those that are less experienced (LE). Those who play in the Brunel League will be top seeds along with those in the first division of the Bath Thursday Night League (ME) (with the finishing position of the team from the previous year taken into account if need be). The number of seeds depends on the number of entries to keep an even balance.
The draw will be made from two pots, one with ME and one with LE players – in an attempt to equalise the resulting teams. The draw will be made for the drawn pairs competition in front of at least six club members and an agreed ‘independent adjudicator’ to ensure fairness.
All of those included in the draw have said that they want to play in the competition and to be successful it needs all of them to follow through on their commitment.
There will be a main draw with first round losers going into a drawn ‘plate’ competition. Preliminary rounds may be required. Every entrant should therefore get at least two games. Approximately three weeks will be allowed between each round, but this may vary to suit the number of entrants
Each round must be played in a timely manner and the result submitted to the organiser ASAP after the match.
It is the responsibility of both pairs to arrange games. If this is not done within a reasonable time frame then the organiser may intervene and decide the outcome. However, it is in everybody’s interest to play the game so please be proactive and sort your games out, particularly if you are away at any time during the timescales given. Don’t leave it to the last minute!
You may play these games on a Monday club night IF depending on numbers of available pistes but #clubnights will take priority. Also note that there are some league games on Thursdays and occasionally Wednesdays, throughout the summer. No need to book your piste just turn up and play.
Matches will normally be the best of three games, however if agreed you may play just one game to 13 points. Normal EPA rules will apply to the games. You can agree to play on a ‘closed piste’ if you wish. You will need to agree which piste you play on by the toss of a coin.
In the event of bad weather then both pairs may agree to rearrange the games, but it must be played within a reasonable time. An extension may be granted by the organiser in exceptional circumstances.
Normal Boules rules will apply but please play the games in the spirit of friendliness and enjoyment that is at the heart of the Northey Arms Boules Club.
